Toni Mata Lake Street Business and Career Center 1516 E. Lake Street “People from very different backgrounds come to us every day. We offer entrepreneurship training classes, financing and technical assistance, professional training and job placement and resources such as business literature, computer and internet access, among others. BCC is a resource center. We direct people towards the resources and find ways to work with other organizations to help them." Toni Mata has been the Director of the Lake Street Business and Career Center since it opened its doors in February 2005. Her background in marketing and community development, both in Costa Rica and here in Minnesota, made her the perfect candidate for the position. The purpose of the Business and Career Center is to offer guidance on economic advancement to low-income residents of Minneapolis. The center arrived in the right moment to help small business owners and investors who are eager to take advantage of new opportunities arising from major redevelopment in Midtown, says Mata. —Reported by Elma Johnson of the Lake Street Council
