Juan Carlos Alanis Latino Communications Network 1516 E. Lake Street "The key to survival of a business on Lake Street is quality for the right price. The competition is growing and only the businesses that can adapt to the changes will survive. The path of the Hispanic business community in Minneapolis has not been easy. Latino businesses revitalized Lake Street and they are growing. With the current changes around here, we hope that the bigger businesses will start approaching our Latino community with direct advertising. I hope Lake Street will become an "avenida del mundo" (world avenue) and the Latino community becomes one with the mainstream community - each valuing the assets of the other. Therefore, finding ways to do cross-marketing is the key to success for the vision everyone shares for the future of Lake Street and the idea the MIDTOWN branding is seeking to achieve." Juan Carlos Alanis is the director of the Hispanic newspaper Gente de Minnesota. His extroverted character, dedication to the community and amiable personality has made him well-known in the Hispanic community. He first established his paper in St. Paul five years ago, but soon moved it to Minneapolis on Lake Street. “Lake Street in Minneapolis is the center of the Latino community of the Twin Cities. It is vibrant, and here we are near the heartbeat of our people.” Now Gente is part of a bigger media organization called Latino Communication Network. Thousands of copies of Gente are distributed every week. Its advertising comes mainly from Latino businesses, but is being used more and more by non-Hispanic businesses to reach the community.
