| 1. Park Design Team: Artist/s should be involved in the design of the park that will be developed in conjunction with I-35 West design. This could be a prime site for special events. A public/private partnership should be considered at this site.
2. I-35W Overpass: This project should incorporate artist-designed lighting to animate the space under the Overpass. It could also incorporate an acoustic element that makes use of passing cars overhead and helps to move people through the space. The project should be inviting, friendly, safe, and as vandal resistant as possible. This would be an entry point into the park described above.
3. Private Development Public Art Opportunities: Artist/s should be contracted to work with the developer and designers in a public art project that is integral to the development of the site.
4. 29th Street Pedestrian Promenade: Artist-designed fencing with designs or cutouts that are emblematic of this particular, adjacent part of the Greenway should be commissioned. The designs/cutouts might depict icons or symbols related to neighborhoods and/or commercial activity (natural, historic or contemporary). Artist-designed seating should also be considered and markers, signifying proximity to the Greenway should be included at this site. A potential artist-designed overlook site.
5. 5th Avenue Site: As this site encompasses privately held developable land, it is a potential opportunity for private development public art projects. Artist/s should be commissioned to design and produce artwork that is functional, recreational, and sport-themed, i.e. sculptural playground or exercise equipment or an artist-designed sport court or skateboard park. This is a prime opportunity for community involvement with an artist, especially for families or children to be actively engaged with artists in producing public art. The Fourth Avenue bridge, adjacent to this site, was the first public art project on the Greenway, funded with private dollars coordinated with the Minneapolis Department of Public Works. | |
