| 1. Greenway Ventures (Opening Night Gallery) Site: A private development public art opportunity which could enhance the interface between the Greenway and this industrial-space adaptive re-use through an artist-designed extension (patio, staircase) of the building into the Greenway.
2. Soo Line Gardens/Greenway Transition: To further connect the garden to the Greenway, an artist/landscape architect team should bring the garden over the Greenway edge. In conjunction with the gardeners, the team should help to better define the garden site with pathways, benches, storage sheds, lighting, gates, trellises, and other garden amenities. Topiary should also be considered. Hennepin County is currently conducting a community planning process to assist in determining future uses of this site. If the Soo Line Gardens site is developed and the Gardens disappear, a memory of the garden should be designed on the Greenway embankment.
3. 29th Street Pedestrian Promenade: Artist-designed fencing with designs or cutouts that are emblematic of this particular, adjacent part of the Greenway should be commissioned. The designs/cutouts might depict icons or symbols related to neighborhoods and/or commercial activity (natural, historic or contemporary). Artist-designed seating should also be considered and markers, signifying proximity to the Greenway should be included at this site. A potential artist-designed overlook site.
4. Pleasant Avenue Ramp: This future entry into the Greenway from Pleasant Avenue, like the entries at the east and west ends, should celebrate access to a special place. An artist-designed entry feature that is inviting and sculptural, visible from a distance, and includes a lighting element should be commissioned. Greenway identifying markers should be added to this site and the approach to it along Pleasant Avenue.
5. Private Development Public Art Opportunity at the Elroy Site: Artist/s should be contracted to work with the developer and designers in a public art project that is integral to the development of the site. | |
